Meeting Recap Archive

October 2008

At the October meeting we shared information that we had picked up at the Gluten-Free Fair in Cottonwood in September. In discussing our idea to hand small notices about the group on the shelves displaying gluten-free products in the local grocery stores we found out that Fry's said we couldn't put them up; New Frontier's also said no but suggested putting one on their bulletin board, and Basha's at Walmart said yes.

Stacy Hitesman, a dietician at the hospital, gave us copies of a gluten-free nutrition guide that she had developed. It lists the nutrients most commonly missing from a gluten-free diet, how much of each is needed per day, and alternate sources that don't contain gluten.

We discussed Lynn's upcoming cooking class at Coconino Community College. See the announcement above for more information.

We also discussed the possibility of starting a food co-op. Barb shared her positive experience (and savings) ordering products from Amazon.com.
